Please join me in kicking off my candidacy for Justice of the Peace Pct. #4  Denton County Republican Primary

I am honored to be your candidate for the office of Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 Denton County. The most important things to me are family and community. We all deserve to live and work in a safe and secure environment and expect justice and support when needed from a compassionate and fair government. The Justice Court is the closest and most affordable way to remedy some of the things we find ourselves in need of during our everyday life without the added expense of a lawyer. Whether it be settling a dispute, trying to help a troubled youth, collecting a debt or even getting married, this office is here to help and serve you by an experienced non-attorney judge.  I am the only non-lawyer candidate in this race. This is your court - The "Peoples Court" !   Let's keep it that way !

The Justice of the Peace’s primary function is to hold civil and small claims court as judiciously as possible to relieve the case load of the higher courts. This court has criminal jurisdiction over such cases as bad checks, truancy, traffic offenses and also issues peace bonds and holds hearings while performing magisterial duties such as accepting criminal complaints, ordering arrests, issuing search warrants and conducting examining trials.

Texas Strong Republican Women Forum

Scott Smith had his best to date debate Wednesday at the Texas Strong Republican Women Club (of which he is an associate member) forum. The event was held at the new county courthouse in Canyon Falls, the far west side of Flower Mound.

Scott emphasized the need for the Justice of the Peace to be pro-active when dealing with juvenile issues in the precinct. "Let's get to these kids with help before they get to this court" Smith said. Also work closely with our local school districts to educate our kids on the consequences of breaking the law and help them become model citizens of our community, ones we can be proud of.

Smith also said this court deserves a full time judge and one who will be available 24/7 for law enforcement.

Lantana Candidates Forum

Sponsored by LARC, DCRC & Pachyderm Clubs.

Candidate Smith more than held his own in Justice of the Peace debate. Questions were answered quick and concise to crowd of over 100. "I think I rattled my opponents while emphasizing that this court needs a non-attorney judge" !  The 2 lawyers seemed to have trouble answering that one ?
